From Lancers to All-Stars

The 2008 MLB All-Star game will be special for Bishop Amat fans.
The 79th Mid-Summer Classic, scheduled for Tuesday at Yankee Stadium in New York, will feature two former Lancers - pitcher Dan Haren of the Arizona Diamondbacks and infielder Michael Young of the Texas Rangers. Both are having killer years.

Young, left, graduated from Amat in 1994. He s hitting a solid .302 with seven home runs and 52 RBIs to earn a spot on the American League team. He's been one of the top players in the American League since getting a full-time position at shortstop when Alex Rodriguez was traded to the New York Yankees. His play in recent years has earned him praise from the opposition.
"Michael Young is my favorite player in the American League," White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen told MLB.com. "He plays the game the way it should be played."

Haren, left, a '98 Amat grad, earned his spot by being an anchor for Arizona's pitiching staff. He's a respectable 8-5 with a solid 2.72 ERA. He also has 112 strikeouts in 125 innings.
"(If I don't) start it, it would probably feel a little different coming out of the bullpen," Haren told MLB.com. "But either way the adrenaline is extremely high, so a lot of it is just about controlling your emotions."
Which will be hard for Haren, whose family is originally from the Big Apple and he will have a lot of family and friends pulling for him.
"The buzz in the city, just when we traveled there to play the Mets, we saw a lot of signs and stuff and read a lot about ticket prices and hotels out there," Haren said. "It's going to be crazy, but New York's crazy as it is so I can't imagine."
A good luck to this former Valley players.
Wouldn't it be neat if they faced each other?
