James Skelton, a former standout baseball player at West Covina High School, completed a solid 2008 season in the Detroit Tigers organization, moving from Single-A to Double-A by season's end.

The former Bulldog hit a combined .303 while making stops for the Tigers' affiliates of Lakeland, Fla. of the Florida State League and Erie, Pa of the Eastern Association. He wound up the season with five home runs, 34 RBIs and 15 stolen bases. He hit .307 in 63 games with Single-A Lakeland before moving up to Double-A Erie after the Tigers traded veteran Pudge Rodriguez in July. He hit .294 with two homers and 11 RBIs in 24 games with Erie.

Thank you for the kind words about my son James. He is now in Hawaii playing in the fall league for the Oahu Cane Fires. There is another young man who also had an outstanding year. His name is Daniel Robertson and he went to South Hills High School and in his first professional season of baseball he led the Northwest League and his team with a .377 BA. He also led his team (Eugene Emeralds) in almost all offensive categories. Most RBI's (45), doubles (21), triples (3), walks (34), and hits (114). He was also named MVP of the league.

Bill Skelton was my Pony baseball coach at WCYPB...Walmerado Park. I was his catcher on the Angels, back in 1993. Good coach. Good dude.

Bill, if you get this....holler at me.

I also played for Bill at Walmerado. Our families knew each other well. I played with James' older brother Eric at West Covina High School, who is also a good ball player. The last time we met I was Christening my son Ivan as you were Christening your beautiful grand daughter. I am glad to hear that the family is doing so well. Congratulations!
