Tierra Rejada -- "The Golf Course That Cares"

It's not often one associates golf courses with benign gestures toward the surrounding community, but Moorpark's Tierra Rejada Golf Club is intent on breaking that mold wide open. This Friday, December 2nd, the course will present checks to the Ventura County Sheriff's Foundation and the Make-a-Wish organization to help spread a little holiday cheer in these hard times.

Tierra Rejada has always been near the the top of my personal list of favorite area courses, ever since it opened back in 1999. It has some dramatic elevation changes, unfettered looks at nature in every direction and is always kept in tip-top shape. Additionally, they've now designed a "course within the course" called "The Players Course" that shortens the layout to 5,600 yards from the usual nearly 7,000 yard length (from the championship tee).

"We accept the fact that a large number of those wo play our championship course come away feeling a bit beat up," said course developer and co-owner Ted Kruger. "With the Players Course we are putting the fun back in Tierra Rejada. Who the heck ever said that golf shouldn't be fun?" Not a bad idea for a game that gained 3.6 million players in 2010, but also lost 4.6 million others!

Tierra Rejada also has a great driving range, and a separate area for sand practice and chipping. All that and TJ's Bar & Grill, one of the finer places to eat whether you're golfing or not! See you there!
