With his 54th save Tuesday, Francisco Rodriguez is three away from tying Bobby Thigpen’s single-season record. While we wait for history, here are some Rodriguez tidbits:
Frankie now has the most saves in a single season by a Latino pitcher, surpassing the 53 saves recorded by Panamanian-born Mariano Rivera in 2004.
When Frankie next enters the game in a save situation, he will become just the second pitcher to get at least 60 save opportunities in a single season. Thigpen had 65 save opportunities in his record-setting 1990 campaign.
