Angels will play, but Pujols, Hamilton, Trout, Kendrick won’t.

Tempe Diablo Stadium

Angels pitching coach Mike Butcher (middle) and Angels catcher Hank Conger (left) through the open right-field gate at Tempe Diablo Stadium.

The Angels will play today but they won’t risk injuring their star players on a wet field. Mike Trout, Howie Kendrick, Albert Pujols and Josh Hamilton — the scheduled one through four hitters in the lineup — were scratched due to inclement weather. The infield has been covered with a tarp for most of the morning, but the storm clouds over Tempe Diablo Stadium indicate more rain in store if the game gets played. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m.

The new lineup:

Luis Rodriguez SS
Kole Calhoun DH
Hank Conger C
Luis Jimenez 1B
Kaleb Cowart 3B
Taylor Lindsay 2B
Randal Grichuk RF
Trent Oeltjen LF
Travis Witherspoon CF
