Angels pregame workout

Kaleb Cowart, Randal Grichuk, Taylor Lindsey, Eric Stamets and Alex Yarbrough are headed to the Angels’ minor-league camp after the team trimmed its spring training camp roster to 53 on Friday.

Cowart, the 20-year-old ranked as the 60th-best prospect by Baseball America, batted .250/.278/.313 in 18 plate appearances. The Angels got a good look at him in eight games and had to be encouraged by his error-free play at third base. Cowart got all four of his hits left-handed, a point of emphasis for the switch-hitter, and only had two at-bats right handed.

Grichuk had a superlative spring offensively (.385/.429/.615). At age 21 and with no experience above the High-A level, he simply wasn’t going to make the team. At least now, it will be interesting to see how and where he begins the regular season.

Lindsey, 21, was just as good (.417/.417/.667) in six games, hitting a home run and driving in six.

Stamets walked, singled and drove in a run in four plate appearances this spring.

Yarbrough had one hit, a two-run single, in six plate appearances.
