Someone suggested this morning that the two players the Angels acquired for Vernon Wells on Tuesday, Exicardo Cayones and Kramer Sneed, would be good title characters in a Buddy Comedy. Look out Harold and Kumar…here come Exicardo and Kramer!

Some more info on the two players, neither of whom will join the Angels’ 40-man roster:

Cayones, 21, spent the 2012 season playing for New York’s Single-A Staten Island Yankees. The outfielder posted a .228 (36/158) clip last season, logged 15 RBIs and made just one error in 47 games for the short season Yankees. Originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Pirates in 2008, Cayones was acquired by the Yankees as part of the A.J. Burnett trade with Pittsburgh prior to the 2012 campaign. Over four minor league seasons, the Valencia, Venezuela native owns a .261 (164/629) batting average with 99 runs scored and 83 RBIs.

Here’s what Angels GM Jerry Dipoto said about Cayones:

“A young 21-year-old, just turned 21 in October, left-handed hitting outfielder a Pirates signee a few years back out of Veneuzela, I think he was a $400,000 bonus guy. It’s a good swing, a sound swing. He’s still a young guy. hasn’t put together the bat for average; I think he’s a .261 hitter at the low levels. He has already shown a very advanced approach for a guy his age. That’s an advantage. We’ll put him in the system at low levels. He’ll report here to the extended (spring training) program and be given the opportunity to play. We’ll see what player development can do for him as time goes on.”

Sneed, 24, spent the 2012 campaign with Class-A Tampa in the Florida State League and posted an 0-7 record with a 5.37 ERA (63.2 IP – 38 ER) and 49 strikeouts in 31 games (four starts). In three career minor league seasons, he has a 6-19 overall record with a 4.39 ERA (207 IP – 101 ER) and 210 strikeouts. The native of Winterville, NC was drafted by the Yankees in the 32nd round of the 2010 amateur draft out of Barton College (NC).

Dipoto on Sneed:

“A 6-3 left-hand pitcher. He’s got some history of striking people out. That’s a good thing. Did not have a particularly good year last year in the Florida State league. Prior to that had been a left-hander with angle, fastball velocity up to 92 mph, got some slice to his slider that will get up to 85 mph. At 24 years old with high A-ball experience and north of 9 strikeouts per 9 over his career, we feel like there’s a bullpen role for him in the system. We’ll see how far he can take it.”
