Scioscia: Fired Brewers manager Reonicke ‘will get another shot’

Former Angels bench coach Ron Reonicke, who Sunday was fired 25 games into his fifth season as the Milwaukee Brewers manager, has a believer in Anaheim. Scioscia wasn’t shy in declaring that Reonicke will receive another opportunity to be a manager.

“Just an unbelievable baseball mind and a great communicator and I thought (Reonicke) did a great job with Milwaukee,” Scioscia said. “Unfortunately guys wanted to make a change, but he’ll get another shot. He’s a great manager.”

The Brewers started this season 7-18, but went 342-331 in four-plus seasons under Roenicke, who led the team to winning seasons in three of his four years, including the 2011 National League Central Division title.

He was a member of the Angels’ coaching staff for 10 years beginning in 2000, one year after Scioscia took over as manager. He was the third base coach for five years and the bench coach for his final five seasons before becoming the Brewers’ manager.
