MLB suspends Angels minor-league catcher Carlos Ramirez.

Carlos RamirezMajor League Baseball announced Friday that Carlos Ramirez, who is currently playing for the Angels’ Double-A affiliate, has been suspended 50 games without pay for a second violation for a drug of abuse.

The Arkansas Travelers’ season begins today. Ramirez’s suspension is effective immediately.

A 34th-round draft pick in 2007 out of Chandler-Gilbert (Ariz.) Community College, Ramirez batted .204/.312/.276 for the Travelers last season. During the open competition for the Angels’ backup catcher position in spring training, Ramirez remained in the Angels’ minor-league camp.
