Public relations people can be great. Before any big event – like Thursday’s unveiling of the new Tom Bradley International Terminal at LAX - these folks tend to compile wonderfully complete and sometimes inane fact lists about whatever they’re promoting.
Courtesy of the LAX crew, here are some tidbits about the new building, a good chunk of which is scheduled to open in August or September:
- The building will cost an estimated $1.9 billion
- The new Bradley will be able to process 4,500 passengers per hour, up from the 2011 rate of 2,800 per hour.
- There will be 18 gates, nine of which will accommodate a A380.
- At 1.2 million square feet, the terminal will be twice the size of the existing one
- Length of new facility: 2,335 feet
- Peak height of new Great Hall: 110 feet
- Structural steel used: 15,500 tons.
- Total architecture man hours: approximately 500,000 hours
- 5,000 windows
- 31 dining options, 17 of them being Los Angeles-area brands
- Funded through LAX operating revenues, capital improvement program funds, fees from airlines, passenger facilities charges and bond proceeds.
