Van Nuys Airport: Gang graffiti painted on Learjet

Police are searching for a whoever broke into Van Nuys Airport on Sunday at about 2 a.m. and painted graffiti on a Learjet, officials said.

“There was an intrusion at Van Nuys Airport where a Learjet was vandalized with what appeared to be a gang graffiti,” Los Angeles Police Sgt. Rudy Lopez said. “I don’t know what the motive was of the individual or individuals was to vandal this specific plane. That may not be determined until an arrest is made.”

My sources tell me the plane is registered as N898PA. It’s a Learjet 60 built in 1997 and owned by Des Aviation LLC, online records show. The plane was parked at Maguire Aviation, according to the police report.

I’ve been meaning to look for these photos for our main stories on this incident — thanks for putting them here.

It’s more of a no-man’s-land around VNY than not — not the best conditions for security. But given all the high-profile operations at the airport — including LAFD helicopters — you’d think they’d have things locked down better.
