Invasion of the favorite-show snatchers

A reader noting my writing on the campaign to resuscitate HBO’s “Deadwood requested the same kind of love be shown one of her favorite shows, “Invasion, for which a similar online rescue effort has been made after ABC ignominiously cancelled the series after its first season.

Said fan notes that creator Shaun Cassidy – somewhat perversely, as he had to know that his series was on the bubble – uncorked a huge season-ending cliffhanger that will now obviously never be resolved, and that the show did better than “What About Brian, which ABC in fact (and somewhat head-scratchingly) did renew. The latter is true, but “Invasion absolutely hemorrhaged viewers from “Lost, while “Brian had no lead-in to speak of, so the ratings disappointments are relative.

Anyway, given the number of new shows ABC picked up for the 2006-07 season – a dozen scripted shows as well as some reality programming – they scarcely need any more cluttering up their shelves. But, if you liked the show, the chance to get something off your chest is linked above.

Yep. It's a crime against good television and intelligent viewers. At the very least, ABC should do a 2-hour Invasion movie to wrap things up.

I'm going to miss Invasion, too. But, I don't think any online campaign or letter-writing efforts will get the network to change its mind. It's all about money. And we, the little people who watch, are inconsequential in that equation.
