The near future for Tom Cruise

With Paramount severing its relationship with Tom Cruise and Cruise/Wagner Productions, it got me thinking: Tom Cruise must have films in pre-production -- what are the projects, studios and distributors involved?

A quick trip to IMDB yields the following:

"The Eye," planned for 2007, is the remake of a Hong Kong film about a woman who receives an eye transplant and then starts seeing things -- not normal things, that is. Cruise is attached, and according to IMDB, Jessica Alba is being sought to co-star (as the freaky-eye recipient, I presume). David Moreau and Xavier Palud are listed as directors, production companies are Cruise/Wagner and Vertigo Entertainment, and distributor is Lionsgate.

"I Married a Witch," also set for 2007, will be directed by Danny DeVito. Cruise is "attached" to the project, and talks are under way with Famke Jannsen (for the witch part, no doubt). The production company is Cruise/Wagner, and the distributor is Warner Bros. Who isn't in bed with Tom Cruise? I mean that in a business sense, of course.

And set for 2008 is "The Few," to which Cruise is also attached. It's the story of American pilot Billy Fiske, who despite the U.S. not yet having entered World War II, joined the fight anyway in the skies against Germany. Michael "Miami Vice" Mann is named as the director, and I guess due to its fighter-pilot theme, you could call it "Top Gun II." But will it happen at all? Production companies listed for the project on IMDB are Paramount, Cruise/Wagner and Forward Pass. The movie might just need a Hail Mary to get made with Cruise and Paramount, but nothing talks like money, so all concerned might want to zip it and let the cash roll in. The distributor: Paramount. Sumner Redstone might want to get Brad Pitt on the horn. Or Jake Gyllenhaal ...
