$5 Lunch: Italian sub

PastramiSandwich.jpg (not my actual lunch)

What's in a name? That which we call a Lincoln Lunch/ By any other name would cost as little?

Huh? I think I'll stick to prose.

So it's been brought to my attention that I did not fully explain why I call my posts on $5 midday meals the Lincoln Lunch. Study this fiver and maybe you'll recognize Abe's beard, his arched brows and resolute lips. Still don't get it? Lincoln is on the five dollar bill!

Moving on. I exchanged a fiver for a tasty pastrami sandwich at Cavaretta's Italian Groceries on Sherman Way just west of Topanga today. Theirs comes with cheese, lettuce, onions, mustard and mayo, plus dressing. The small size is $4.50 and was plenty of food. The store has a nice selection of drinks, including trendy ones like Boylan and Izze, plus wine, fresh cannolis. Need I say more?

Reviews here.

Bonus: They have three outdoor tables and a few indoors.
Super bonus: The place smells strongly of meat.

Visit Cavaretta's at 22045 Sherman Way in Canoga Park. (818) 340-6626
