LAT food "deals"

The cover of today's LA Times Food section lists places to get cheap food with tantalyzing pictures. A few of the items really ARE cheap, but a good number are not what I would consider a deal. A $42 tasting menu? A $10 BLT? Puh-leeze.

Let's skip to the true finds:
$5.50 for a 18 bagels at Schwartz Bakery on Wednesdays, in LA
$2.50 kachapuri (similar to a calzone) at Dream Bakery in North Hollywood
$5 roasted chicken with rice and beans at Polla a ala Brasa in LA, Gardena and Montebello
$1.95 cupcakes at Jongewaard's Bake 'n' Broil in Long Beach. (Are those mini cupcakes or the real deal? I can't tell from the picture.)
