smudge discounts
I was in Banana Republic the other day and saw a cute white top, above, with a wide cut neck on sale. Fit decently and would be perfect for work. Price tag: $25. I gave it a once over in the dressing and noticed a tiny black mark in the back of the collar. At the register I asked for a discount even though I knew my hair would totally cover the smudge. The sweet sales rep said he could give me a 15 to 20 % off if I agreed to a final sale - no returns. If it was 20% off I would take it, I replied.
Moral of the story: if you see a smudge or mark on a piece of clothing ask for a discount (but leave it open, usually they just offer 10% but sometimes you get lucky with 15% or 20%).
