Nickel booze
Buy any bottle of wine and get a second one (the same bottle) for just 5 cents at BevMo. Online they list 195 bottles that are part of the sale (guess it doesn't apply to the entire store.) They give a description of the wine and it's rating on a scale of 1 to 100, plus any prizes it has won. Knowing that a lot of folks give bottles of wine as presents around the holiday, it's a great time to stock up. I'd get a dozen and whatever you don't give away you can drink yourself or save for a dinner party. The deal also seems to include some hard alcohol. I just added a second bottle of Skyy Vodka to my cart and the tab only went up by five-cents!
This Auguste Bessac Cotes du Rhone '06 is $13 and scored 89 points by their judge, Wilfred Wong. The blurb says: "A frisky red, the lively '06 Auguste Bessac Cotes-du-Rhone delivers a complete package; excellent ripe fruit on the palate and superb freshness in the aftertaste." Sounds like an adventure.
The Baroncini Chianti '06 is $14 and is described as a "picture-perfect Chianti; the straight-forward and focused '06 Baroncini Chianti simply drinks well; no more and no less, this wine is not fancy, just plain good." I like the sound of that!
If you want to spend a little more consider the Paoletti Cabernet '02 for $35. It scored 90 points and is "bright, firm, and full of ripe fruit flavors, this almost-in-your-face wine lasts long and smooth on the palate."
The El Portillo Malbec Rose '06 goes great with grilled pork chops, according to the description. It's $15.
The Grant Burge Chardonnay '04, $15, has my mouth watering. It is described as "a delicious Chardonnay from Australia; this white has a bright golden color, with aromas of fresh pineapples, and melon; on the palate, it is rich and medium bodied with notes of butterscotch."
