Lincoln Lunch: Indian
(similar amount of food, totally different layout)
Here's a Lincoln Lunch to end all Lincoln Lunches: a $5 meal at the vegetarian India Sweets and Spices in Canoga Park. So far unparalleled in size and a top contender for quality. For my Lincoln fiver I received a samosa, a pakora (shredded onions and veggies dipped in chickpea batter and fried), yellow rice, yogurt curry, stewed chickpeas, a tangy yogurt sauce to cool my tongue, chapati (like a very flat naan), a big, flat piece of crispy poori, onions and pickles. I couldn't even eat half of it! Everything tasted hot and fresh and was spicy, but not so much that I had to refill my water bottle and or blow my nose. My table wasn't perfectly clean, but the floors were and before I left an employee came out to clean all the tables. Plastic utensils and water are available and you pay after eating. My meal would have been $4 without the samosa and pakora, or $6 with them and one dessert. A la carte dosas are $3 to $5 and samosas are 69-cents each. Here's the menu for their Los Feliz store, so prices are a tad off. I had the #2. Thanks jjohns!
Visit them at 22009 Sherman Way a hair west of Topanga Canyon Rd (the second storefront from the corner on the north side). (818) 887-1417. Parking in the back.
