Lincoln lunch: dawgs

WienerFactory.jpg Pulled a u-turn on Ventura Blvd in Sherman Oaks today when I saw this sign on the awning of The Wiener Factory: "We sold over 4 hot dogs this year." With such brisk sales I figured it was worth a stop! Service was quick at the window even though there was a line inside. I ordered a chili dog with onions ($2.95), curly fries ($2.50) and a coke ($1.50). Not the most healthy, but hopefully it will put back a little junk in my trunk that I have burned off running. When the food came I realized the dog would have been enough. It was crispy, hot, and slightly salty. The chili reminded me of Tommy's chili, goopy and good. The curly fries were very hot but so big I barely made a dent. A regular who I shared one of two outdoor tables highly recommended the spicy Polish dogs, which are *actually* spicy, he said, unlike most "spicy" restaurant food. Sadly, the joint is closing Dec 31 because the owner sold the building. The rumor mills says coming soon is a Pinkberry, the fad almost-frozen-yogurt chain.Visit them at 14917 Ventura Blvd in Sherman Oaks. (818) 789-2676. Open 11 to 6.

The hotdogspot.com gave it the thumbs up.

Julia, this blog is looking great. But I fear for your innards, eating food like this.

The Weiner Factory is one of the best places to get a hotdog in LA. I've heard that it is closing though :o(

Tommy's and Carney's are well-known for great chili. Less known is Marty's on the Westside (Pico just east of Prosser). It's easy to overlook but well worth the stop. Chili and grilled onions are always ready. Need I say more?
