Lincolnish Lunch: pita

CaliforniaPitaFacade.jpgAte a lemon chicken pita sandwich at California Pita in Woodland Hills for lunch and am fully pleased (no Web site, tho). Unfortunately, I was so hungry I ordered the first thing I saw and didn't notice three Lincoln Lunch options until it was too late.

My pita was $5.99 and totally worth it. It came hot and wrapped in a tinfoil cone. Chunks of lightly grilled chicken, lettuce, and tomatoes spilled out the end. A layer in I ran into a yellow mustard-based sauce. Normally, nothing repels me as quickly as mustard does. Gross! But this sauce grew on me and by the last bite I was glad it was there. The pita was warm, chewy, thick and pocketless. Perfect for a rainy day. Only complaint: chicken wasn't lemony. If the quality of the Lincoln Lunches (falafel, falafel burger, and dolma) rival the chicken pita, I would recommend them.

The scenery is not as good as the food, however. The dining room is bland and very open. But the tables were clean and well stocked with napkins. Once I ordered the wait for a server to bring my food was minimal. Service was eh.

Visit them at 21753 Ventura Blvd. (818) 999-1118. Locations in Sherman Oaks (15053 Ventura Blvd), LA and Brentwood. The eatery got four positive reviews on Yelp. What is a Lincoln Lunch? Answer.
