I am a full believer in buying yourself jewelry if your sweetie does not know your taste. (Sorry Hubby, that's you.) You could also send him/her a link to the coveted item with an unequivocal message like 'I'd love to get this for Valentine's Day!' Beat around the bush and you risk receiving a toaster. Besides, if you don't tell your sweetie what you want/need, how will they know? Life's too short to play guessing games.
