Lincolnish Dinner: Falafel
(not my actual lunch)
Hubby introduced me to Falafel Grill, a lunch spot in Agoura Hills that satisfies falafel cravings. I was skeptical because he said their falafel is $6. In my former haunt of Jersey City, NJ, Ibby's sold falafels for $2.50. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the grill and would eat there again.
I had the special ground chicken sandwich, which is just like a falafel but with two grilled fillets of ground chicken instead of falafel balls. It came in a large pita with shredded red and white cabbage, small diced tomatoes and yummy tahini sauce. A good amount of humus lined the bottom of the pita, which was tucked into a plastic sleeve. My fingers didn't get messy until the last few bites when structural pita failure occurred. My sammy was $5.95 (normally $7.25). The falafel is also $5.95 and got props from Hubby.
The restaurant has a low-key religious vibe. A few tables look onto oil paintings of rabbis and a copy of the Talmud. Catchy Israeli music is pipped in and you can buy imported wafers with Hebrew characters on the wrapper. There's even a little kitsch: faux jumbo Coke Cans dispense napkins on each table.
A few other $4.95 Lincoln Lunch options: a hamburger, a veggie burger, hummus and pita, baba ganush and pita. Soup of the day is $4.65 and chicken nuggets are $3.95.
