Paris hotels at fixed dollar rates

HotelduLouvre.jpgIf a weak dollar has not dissuaded you from venturing abroad, take advantage of this offer to lock in a hotel rate in US dollars at two Paris hotels. Basically, you pay the equivalent of whatever $300USD is in Euros the day you check out at Hotel Lutetia or $360USD at Hotel du Louvre. So if the dollar falls, you pay fewer Euros. If the dollar climbs, you pay more Euros. The bottom line is you pay however many Euros equals $300USD, plus bank fees, on the day you check out. Book now for stays between July 11 and August 31 to guarantee these rates.

On hotels.com Hotel Lutetia is booking for $398 a night. Hotel du Louvre is booking for $430 a night. Caveats: valid only for North American citizens (they check passports at check in), subject to availability.

I guess I should have booked Paris instead of London!

Recently, the U.S. based airlines that have been relegated to London Gatwick because of slot restrictions at London Heathrow are now able to fly into Heathrow and dump Gatwick.

Here in L.A., both AA and United were not affected by the Heathrow slot restriction, as both AA and United purchased slots from now-defunct carriers that previously flew into Heathrow, so for many years both AA and United were grandfathered.

Other than AA and United, no other U.S. airline has been able to fly into Heathrow.

Now with the change in slot restrictions at Heathrow and new competition, fares into London have dropped like an atom bomb!

Many know that fares have been historically high into Heathrow from Los Angeles.

More often than not, it was often cheaper to fly into Paris or Frankfurt and then back to London.

Earlier this week, I purchased a round-trip ticket on Air New Zealand, leaving L.A. May 6th and returning May 13th for $620.00, including taxes and fees!

I have never been able to find a fare this low for round-trip non-stop travel during May.

Usually, it's Virgin and sometimes BA peddling $298 round-trip fares (before taxes and ALL fees) for travel in January and February.

Who wants to go on vacation to London during the winter?

The neat thing about Air New Zee is that their service is very good, and that's hard to find these days among the commercial airlines, and Air New Zee participates in United's mileage program.

Now, if I can only find a hotel in London that will offer a rate at par to the dollar????

London hotels...are you listening?
