Lincoln Lunch: Burrito
Checked out Sabroso in Winnetka recently because reader Marion told me I could find a Lincoln Lunch there. The set up is casual - the menu is spread over three large plastic panels that are tacked onto the wall. You order at and pay the cashier, then get your own drinks and seat yourself. When your food is ready they call your number and you fetch it.
The restaurant stuck me as very clean. There were booths inside and a covered tile patio with tables and piped in music that is occasionally drowned out by traffic on Vanowen St.
I ordered a $5.25 chicken burrito, which came with refried black beans, rice, cheese and a tasty enchilada sauce. The sizable burrito was packed with moist chicken that had a pleasant, if mild, flavor. My order came with a bowl of warm chips that I ate with two delicious salsas from the fresh salsa bar.
Many other burritos were $5.25. The bean and cheese option was $3.25. I've heard the tacos ($2.25 a la carte or $4.95 with rice, beans and tortillas), are excellent. Few menu choices were priced above $7. One that was tempting was a salmon filet with rice and beans for $8.
I was tempted by the rock bottom beer prices - $3.25 for imported bottles, $2.50 for domestic bottles, and $2.50 to $2.95 for beer on tap - but decided to return for happy hour another day. Visit Sabroso at 19714 Vanowen St. just west of Corbin on the south side of the street. (818) 346-4700. Small parking lot. Yelpers gave it a big thumbs up.

I'm glad you liked it. Marion
