Goodbye Ms. Lalum
I hate when people see me cry, which is why I'm writing this from home instead of the office, where my colleagues would see my eyes spilling over.
Today is the last day of my editor Melissa Lalum. She is leaving to take a job at CSUN as a journalism professor and adviser to the student newspaper, the Daily Sundial.
I have loved working with Melissa from the first day I met her, when she returned from maternity leave and introduced herself by giving me a hug. Melissa has been unfailingly supportive of my ideas and appreciative of my work.
She nurtured my crazy idea for the Bargain Hunter blog and gave me time to write it, even though it meant producing fewer stories for print. She shared in my highs as lows as I transformed myself from a reporter to a blogger.
I have had two fantastic years working for her. I truly doubt I will find another boss like her.

It is always such a drag when colleagues who are actually friends leave your job. Especially those who appreciate one's hard work.
It can make things just a little less fun. But we try to be happy for their good fortune in spite of the sadness.
Great bosses are hard to find. Tell Mellisa she can't leave until SHE hires her replacement who will be almost as lovable and supportive!
The good thing is that your blog now has "legs".
Hopefully, your new executive editor Carolina Garcia will continue your blog and byline. By now, your blog has caught the "eye" of Dean Singleton, hence the expansion to other Media News Group publications.
I have other opinions about the Daily News reduced coverage in my area, but your byline and blog are a welcome "spark" to the Daily News and other LANG publications that have steadily shrunk their content and employees in recent years, and most recently, the dramatic reductions in both content and personnel.
For Lalum, she has landed on her feet in the local area, with a position that offers full benefits and a pension. Unfortunately, many other writers haven't been as lucky.

A door is closed a window is open for all those students @ CSUN. Hopefully, her teaching will help continue supporting people that let's them fly like you!
