Starbucks Latte v. drip v. DIY
Starbucks is closing 600 stores because people are not buying enough coffee, which means many folks have already figured out there are many other sources of cheaper coffee.
So how much can you save if you a) downgrade from a daily latte to a daily drip drink at Starbucks? b) buy coffee at a cheap alternative, like McDonald's? c) make your coffee at home?
If you buy a Starbucks latte...$3.25 medium latte x 5 days per week x 50 work weeks in a year = $812.50 for 250 lattes
If you buy coffee at Starbucks...$1.85 16 oz drip coffee x 5 days per week x 50 work weeks in a year = $462.50 for 250 cups of coffee
If you buy coffee at McDonald's...$2.05 16 oz coffee x 5 days per week x 50 work weeks in a year = $512.50 for 250 cups of coffee
If you make coffee at home...250 cups of coffee x $10 for 1lb beans / 35 cups per 1lb = $71.4 + plus the cost of the coffee maker (a budget-friendly French press is $30 at Macys) + $1.15 in sugar if you use one teaspoon per cup + about $12 for milk = $114.55
a) $350 a year
b) -$50 a year. Turns out Starbucks is cheaper than McDonald's!
c) $347.95 a year

YOU FORGOT THAT McDONALDS HAS SENIOR COFFER FOR AROUND SEVENTY FIVE CENTS A CUP.
OBVIOUSLY, YOU'RE TOO YOUNG TO KNOW THIS.
I'm too young to know details, but I know that in one of the Starbucks inside another store, they have Senior priced brewed coffee, so you could always ask.
