Fresh and Easy opens today
Fresh & Easy opens today in Van Nuys on the corner of Vanowen and Sepulveda. The idea behind the store is to sell healthy and fresh food at an affordable price. In size their stores are somewhere between a Trader Joe's and an Albertsons.
A fact sheet on their media page says products sold under the Fresh & Easy store label contain no artificial colors or flavors and no *added* trans fats. Fresh & Easy label eggs are cage-free and all the meat is hormone-free.
The Van Nuys store had an opening ceremony this morning, which I was not able to attend. New stores often have incredible deals to entice customers to come and check them out so be on the look out for specials and coupons. I will share any I come across.
Find a Fresh & Easy near you. The chain is owned by the UK company Tesco.

I went to Fresh & Easy this a.m., primarily to get the free canvas bag. It's where the really old Ralphs used to be. There was a mob of people waiting, as well as a mob of picketers. The reason? Fresh & Easy is an alias for Tesco, the British supermarket chain trying to make inroads in the American grocery market. The store was so crowded, that I grabbed a very few things and left quickly.
I'll probably go back one more time, mainly to check out their prices and merchandise. I'll withhold judgment until then.
I'm glad to see your new "glam" photo is finally being used….. nice!!!
I swung by the new Fresh and Easy on Sepulveda this morning around 11 am. Absolutely jammed parking lot, people waiting in line outside the store to get in. Loads of pickets with large signs about Fresh and Easy Facts of some sort. I had to leave as I couldn't even face waiting for a spot and then waiting to get in the door.
I'm looking forward to going back in a few days when the crowds subside.
I got an "invitation" in the mail and already forgot about it. There was a money-off coupon and a coupon for a free canvas shopping bag.
If there's any amount of "natural" foods, it'll be great, and if it has prices anything like Trader Joe's expect a lot of business to flow away from TJ's in Sherman Oaks and to the Fresh/Easy.
I give them credit for taking that Van Nuys location on Sepulveda and not punking out and doing it in Studio City or Sherman Oaks, which, truth be told, are lousy with Whole Foods and TJ's locations.
There are plenty of empty market locations all over the Valley that would be easy pickins' for Fresh/Easy or just about any chain that feels like doing a little business.
Fresh and Easy's thing is to open in markets that are otherwise underserved by grocery stores. They opened in Eagle Rock and, when I lived in Highland Park, were my favorite store. I'm thrilled that they are opening in Van Nuys now that we've moved.
