Lincoln Lunch: sandwiches and skewers

| | Comments (5) |

tuna sandwich.jpg(not my actual lunch) Eating lunch at Daddy Q's in Woodland Hills left me with a dilemma. Employees at the restaurant tried hard and I'm sure they mean well, but they made enough mistakes that I cannot whole heartedly recommend the place.

But it would be unfair to write Daddy Q's off completely because the food was good. So instead I'll lay out all the pros and cons. I hope it helps you decide whether you want to visit.

Pros
Very friendly service
Received a free taste of fresh squeezed orange juice that was delicious
My tuna sandwich tasted very good
They gave me a full sandwich even though I paid for a half sandwich
The French fries were hot and good
The side salad was small but worth $2
The salad plus a half sandwich ($4) was enough food for lunch...

Pros continued
Portions were good
The food tasted fresh
The cold stuff was cold and the hot stuff was hot
Daddy Q's was clean
Original art on the walls was for sale
Water came with a slice of lemon and ice

Cons
The food took 20 minutes to come
They forgot to put Swiss cheese on my sandwich
They put my sandwich on white bread instead of panini
The computer froze up while the server was taking my order, which probably explains why they made two mistakes
The curly fries were actually crinkle cut fries
My side salad (romaine lettuce) came with a few shredded carrots and two mini tomatoes
A big TV was playing a music concert

My dining companion ordered a chicken skewer plate, which came with three large grilled veggie chunks, fluffy rice, and French Fries. The chicken had a good texture but was slightly bland.

Daddy Q's has a large menu including sandwiches, wraps, design-your-own-salads, skewer plates, soups, sides, a fresh fruit salad, and kid's items. In the end there were many things I liked about Daddy Q's, and I would go back, but because of a few missteps I recommend it with minor reservations.

Visit them at 22990 Ventura Blvd. on the south side of the street. (818) 914-4596.

Hi Julia,

Love your daily emails but guessing you live on the west side of the Valley. Would like to see some of your Lincoln lunch suggestions in the NoHo/Glendale/Burbank area.

Brian,
You are sort of right - my office is on the West side of the Valley. But I appreciate your suggestion and I am trying to explore farther east and even up to Santa Clarita. Please stay tuned. ~Julia

The Bargain Hunter in Santa Clarita?? Really??....Live??...Not a virtual web chat??

I don't see how she can justify the expense to Dean and Carolina of being reimbursed for mileage!

I know...the Bargain Hunter can say to Carolina that she is going to expand her job duties and pick-up some of the work at the printing plant in Valencia along with her cloumn for the Daily News, LANG and other Media News Group publications. LOL

I will hold my breath until I see her actually participating in a price match at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Santa Clarita.

(Don't forget, the price match policy also works at non-Supercenter Wal-Mart locations too, such as Canoga Park, Panorama City, Porter Ranch, Valencia and Stevenson Ranch!)

We need proof you were here, so don't farm this out to a stringer or free lancer. Bring your photographer and hubby for the BIG field trip north.

The visit to Santa Clarita could be a weeks worth of columns, just in time for Black Friday...LOL
