Sam's Club membership $10 for rest of year
Starting this weekend through Sunday, October 26, you can get a Sam's Club membership for the rest of the year for $10. Business owners and families who do not already belong to the warehouse retailer can sign up at any Sam's Club.
This sounds like a great deal, but a year long membership costs $40, or about $.77 a week. With ten weeks left in the year, that would be $7.7 dollars. So the $10 membership is actually slightly more expensive than the yearly rate.
However, if you can stock up on a lot of goods, buy discount Christmas presents, and get a few tanks of cheaper gas, it may be worth it in the long run.

This is a smart deal. They could charge you the whole $40, and then you'd really be overpaying, but this way they can boost their traffic (and sales) for the holiday season.

Sure, on a monthly basis, the $10.00/10 week option is higher, but for those who feel they would not make their ROI on their yearly membership fee, the $10.00 option does provide unlimited visits during the 10 week holiday shopping period.
In past years during the fourth quarter, Sam's has offered one-day shopping passes through inserts in Sunday newspapers, which is another way to avoid the fee, but limits you if you have a need for more shopping, as you can't go back unless you have either a membership or another one-day pass. Let's see if the $10.00/10 week membership replaces the free one-day shopping passes.
As for gas, only two locations in the Daily News distribution area have it available, Santa Clarita and Palmdale. The San Fernando location (a former PACE membership warehouse) does not have gas. At the pumps, you can pay with Sam's Club/Wal-Mart credit, Discover, Master Card and Visa. Of course, Sam's has many more locations that offer gas within LANG's and Media News Group's distribution area.
If you need a prescription, no membership is required in California (state law) (no pharmacy at San Fernando).
As you pay for your items in the store, keep in mind the only credit cards Sam's accepts are Sam's Club/Wal-Mart credit, Discover and Master Card. A way around this is to shop on-line where Sam's accepts all major credit cards, including AMEX and Visa.
While shopping on-line, Sam's usually includes shipping in the price for big ticket items such as appliances, electronics, furniture, mattresses, etc. Check your local stores price with the on-line price as it may save more money to pick-up the item yourself than having the item delivered, but sometimes there is not a price differential.
Also, the famous and world renowned Lincoln Lunch can be had at Sam's Club where everything on the menu is under $5.00 (except whole pizzas). Great chicken caesar salad and water or a soft drink for under $5.00!An FYI, Sam's recently changed the hot dogs from Hebrew National to Nathan's. While still all-beef, Nathan's is not kosher.
