Marriage on the cheap (hint...the ring is used)
Here's a Web site that is similar to Ex Boyfriend Jewelry, which sells baubles from former beaus, but is for wedding rings and white dresses and other nuptial paraphernalia.
The idea behind I Do Now I Don't is to connect people leaving a relationship with those entering one. With the economy in the dumps, the site is becoming more popular, according to spokeswoman Mara Opperman.
In September, sales doubled and listings grew by even more, she said. The site received about 35,000 hits last month, Opperman said.
It is free to list an item, which you can sell through an auction or at a set price. Sellers pay 5% of the purchase price to the site and the buyer pays for shipping.
If you make a deal, send in your ring for the site's gemologist to inspect. I Do Now I Don't holds the buyer's cash until the gemologist makes sure the ring is what you said it is. When all is clear, I Do Now I Don't sends the cash to the seller and the ring to the buyer. The site has turned back three rings and has sold hundreds, Opperman said.
When I checked, the site had 240 diamond rings for sale and 44 wedding dresses. One listing was for a 1.2 ct round cut diamond ring set in platinum for $6,000.
If you are interested in selling a ring but do not have GIA paperwork, get an appraisal from your local jeweler. I Do Now I Don't was founded in January 2007. Some listings are from wholesalers.
