What to do with old holiday cards
I got so many great tips on what to do with old Christmas and Chanukah cards I wanted to highlight the best ones. There really are a lot of ways to re-use them!

I cut the cards from last year and make gift tags for this year! (Maggie made the same suggestion.)

We've cut up old cards before to make place cards at the dinner table. Write the name on the blank side and put the pretty side facing the other way so people on the other side of the table have something pretty to see.

I punch a hole in the corner, then thread nice red...
...ribbon through and hang on doorways, etc., so I'm not throwing them away. (Julia: cut into smaller shapes to make ornaments.)

Try using the front of the old card and cut off the side that has writing on it. Use the card with the picture as a postcard. Not only are you saving paper by using an old Christmas card but the postage for a postcard is less than the first class card in an envelope.
My favorite suggestion came from JosefineAnne:
In addition to making swags of old Christmas cards I have taken some of the most beautiful of them and put them in frames so during the holidays I have a wall devoted to my Christmas Art Gallery.

thanks for so many great ideas.
your 'return to original story doesn't work for me, It just sends me to the top of the story.
Hmmm...I'm not sure what link you are clicking on. When I click "Continue reading What to do with holiday cards" it takes me to the rest of the post. What exactly are you clicking on? ~Julia
Oh yes, I totally forgot the nice Christmas art I have framed that originally came from cards! I take down the year-round art and swap out with the xmas cards. I group them by theme, the whimsical ones together, nice photos together, sacred ones together, etc. I mounted some on felt to act like a mat, they look nice.
I framed them such a long time ago, I'd forgotten they came from cards people sent me! :D
I have tons and tons of cards from years past, maybe I'll sort through them and make more of the swags or cut out for ornaments. You've inspired me!!
Old Christmas cards - cut off the front and mount onto a plain red white or green piece of cardstock that is "just a bit" larger. Then write a message on the back and send to the troops through an organization like "Prayer Angels", "Blue Star Mothers" , "Operation Gratitude", etc.
Fresh and Easy Grocery Stores are collecting holiday cards which they then recycle and donate the proceeds to American Forests. It is a non profit organization which plants trees for environmental restoration. Collection boxes are at the stores until January 20th.
Great idea, Laura. I'm sure soldiers would appreciate getting a holiday card, even if it is recycled. ~Julia
