My new blog!!
I have created my own personal finance blog that is edgier and more personal than the Bargain Hunter. I'm going to use it for posts that are not appropriate for the LA Daily News.
It's called Bargain Babe and today's post is about my bargain instincts failing at the grocery store. What would you do with five pounds of frozen peppers?
Check it out and let me know what you think!
~Julia

Posts that are not appropriate for the LA Daily News? Now you have me curious. Can we expect pics of a scantily-clad Julia Scott roaming the shopping aisles? Reviews of adult-related businesses?
I'm assuming that you set the website up just in case you get the tap on the shoulder. By the sheer number of postings by you today, most writers plan or write ahead of time, so you either are catching up from while you were out sick/vacation, or you are expecting a change of events at the Daily News prompting the number of postings. I know, they are going to make you Sports Editor...hubby would like that...LOL
Either way, if you were to disappear from The Daily News and LANG, at least you alerted your readers about the new web site.
If something happens to you career wise at the Daily News and LANG, alert readers who already subscribe to your e-mail and rss feeds will know where to go, just in case your blog is pulled form the Daily News web site and no archive is available.
For your new web site, you may even be able to begin the process to sell advertisers as to why they need to advertise on your site, and monetize it just like Carolina is doing with her dailynews.com web site!
New site looks nice. Great to see links to publications I peruse frequently such as the Wall Street Journal, along with a whole host of deal blogs I have never even heard of before...worth checking out!

Ha! What an idea. Well I suppose I did ask readers for topics I can blog about! No guarantees, but I will keep it in mind. :) ~Julia
New site looks great, and I wish you good luck. Am happy to have yet another place to find your postings, since I just cancelled my Daily News subscription after more than 20 years (too many missed papers in the past year by an incompetent delivery person).
Hi Julia,
You can make soup out of the peppers. It's good.
I will check my recipe.
Julia, I'm looking forward to your blog as I cancelled my Daily News subscription last year because with a few exceptions, the journalism and editing became really terrible. I now subscribe to the LA Times.
I ask you and other ladies who use the term, "my hubby," to please stop using it because it's a demeaning term, as awful as "the little woman" term is when some men talk about their wives. Please say "my husband" or use his first name.
Thanks, Marian! ~Julia
Bell pepper soup is delicious. Try this.

you can also make stuffed bell peppers
Marian
well i like the new page but you can use then in philly cheese steak and i think its cute to call him hubby its better than my man or something worse good luck with the new page and you have proof we all love it with all the responses you get and the tips you always have
Shoshana, Thank you for checking out my new site. Sorry to hear you canceled your subscription to the Daily News. Do you read it online?
As for referring to my spouse as "Hubby," I don't think it is demeaning. I mean it as an endearment. But I suppose I should ask him what he thinks. Maybe he would prefer to be called "the Boss." ~Julia
Tracy,
Thanks for your input and for checking out my new site, http://www.bargainhunterbabe.com/
I really appreciate your support!
~Julia
In my house, I'm "The Boss" and using the term "hubby" is actually very sweet and not demeaning, especially in these times where some feel that every word and phrase has to be said just right. I'm not in the corporate world anymore...I'm at home!
My hunch is that from those who participate on this blog, the posters appear to be nice who have helpful and thoughtful tips to save money. No endless screaming matches among the posters. Very civil.
Calling my husband "hubby" is not demeaning or disrespectful. Actually, I've been told that I'm the not so nice one and he's the sweetie. Go figure! LOL

Peppers do not freeze well, as you've discovered. In general, veggies that retain water (celery, etc.) don't fare well in the freezer. I would suggest you make a basic vegetarian pasta sauce using the peppers still in your freezer, as peppers don't need to be crunchy in the sauce. Freeze the sauce in serving portions, and add any meat/sausage/whatever when you're ready to use the sauce for a meal.
Also, I tried to leave a comment on your new site, but didn't have any luck. It was a big confusing, trying to figure out what to enter in the sign-in blanks. HELP!!!
BTW ~ You photo on your new site is much more flattering than the one(s) on your BH blog and in the Daily News.
Ellie,
Thanks for the suggestion for what to do with my mounds of peppers! I will probably divide them up between egg scrambles and a batch of pasta sauce.
As for commenting on the new site, I'm still getting all the kinks out so thanks for your patience. It may just be that I have to approve your comment, which I have not done yet (I'm on company time.) I will post a message SOON about commenting on the new site.
I'm glad you like the photo. I do too!
~Julia
How does Roderick figure this stuff out? How can I get him to notice me? Him being so gosh darned dreamy and all ...
p.s. Remember when we were talking about the Pages feature in Wordpress? I have a strong suspicion that MT has this same feature. I'm going to do a test.
Here's what I did today in WordPress:

Dear Bargain Hunter Babe,
All the luck on your new, awesome site. Love the photo, love you! and, I find "Hubby" so sweet. I think it is fitting for him.
love, your NY sis
I love all your writings and doinot care a whit what you call your "significant other."
I, also, discontinued my Daily News subscription after many years. No matter how I pleaded against the practice, the incompetent (or uncaring) delivery person insisted on throwing the paper under the bushes. The There is just so much of that care to abide and then the gardener would dig them out weekly.
Nice to know you will always be around.
Phyllis
Thanks, Phyllis! Sorry to hear about your delivery problems. I have had very few problems with home delivery. ~Julia
