Palm Springs’ Props and Hops Craft Beer Festival returns this afternoon
Whatcha got planned for this afternoon…nothin’?
You could do a lot worse than heading out to Palm Springs for the third annual Props and Hops Craft Beer Festival.
The brewfest takes place from noon to 6 p.m. today (November 22) at the Palm Springs Air Museum, 745 N. Gene Autry Trail.
Tickets are $35 (plus $2.22 service fee if purchased online) and are available in advance by clicking here.
Twenty-three breweries and cideries are expected to participate, including the Coachella Valley trifecta of Babe’s Brewhouse, Coachella Valley Brewing Company and La Quinta Brewing Co.

For the Sake of Ale: Angel City Brewing introduces new sake-inspired beer
Los Angeles’ downtown craft brewery, Angel City Brewing, introduced today a sake-inspired brew dubbed “For the Sake of Ale” in 22oz bombers.
Here’s more from the brewery:
Inspired by the brewery’s neighbors in Little Tokyo, Angel City has combined their brewing expertise with traditional Japanese sake fermentation methods to create a unique style of beer. The rich, complex flavors derived from a traditional sake-style rice and koji fermentation balance naturally with the malted barley and hops. Huge floral notes blend with fruit flavors of pear and pineapple, then round out with a signature, dry finish. A bold experiment in brewing, For the Sake of Ale weighs in at 9.2% ABV.

Two tongue in cheek spots (see below) were produced for the new Newcastle Scotch Ale, a collaboration with Edinburgh, Scotland-based sister brewery, Caledonian.

The Newcastle Scotch Ale collaboration is a limited-time offering from Newcastle and Caledonian that represents the best of English and Scottish brewing: a rich, full-flavored and fulfilling Scottish ale with toffee notes at 6.4 percent ABV and 40 IBUs.
“One of our dreams is to get rid of the ‘intimidation’ factor that prevents so many people from foregoing boring ‘yellow beer’ and enjoying more interesting brews,” said Brett Steen, brand manager for Newcastle Brown Ale. “Wil is an inviting and knowledgeable guy, and we’re stoked that he’s taking this herculean effort of humor and wisdom onto himself so we don’t have to.”
The beer will be available later this month.

Three Weavers Brewing opens in Inglewood this weekend

The Festival 2014 brings craft beer to the Port of Los Angeles this weekend
Dubbed simply The Festival 2014, the products of almost 100 breweries will be featured this weekend as a sort of preview for Brouwerij West, which will open next year at Crafted at the Port of Los Angeles.
Sadly, organizers have chosen for some reason to ignore most of the breweries in the burgeoning Los Angeles craft brew scene — only Torrance’s Monkish Brewing Co., will be present — but there are plenty from around the world.
