Lagunitas has big plans for Southern California brewery

Azusa LagunitasPetaluma-based Lagunitas Brewing Co. has big plans for its new brewery under construction in Azusa.

How big? 178,000-square-feet worth, that’s how big.

Initially, the brewery will pump out 420,000 barrels of beer annually, but will eventually ramp up to — cue Doctor Evil voice — one million barrels. The brewery will distribute throughout the Southwest, and perhaps, eventually into Mexico.

It’s not all about the A Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ and the Hop Stoopid, however. The new facility will be similar to its Chicago brewery, which opened a little over a year ago. It houses a taproom, restaurant and music venue.

The brewery, which is set to open in 2017, is about a mile north of the Irwindale MillerCoors plant. The site plan looks like it fits perfectly on the northwest corner of Todd Avenue and 10th Street.
