Inaugural LA IPA fest coming to Mohawk Bend

Calling all hop heads. The inaugural Los Angeles IPA Festival – showcasing more than 60 breweries – is coming to Mohawk Bend this weekend.

“Hoppy IPA has become the defining style of West Coast beer, and no one loves their hops more than we do in LA,” according to the LA IPA Festival website.

The event is open to the public but reservations are needed for Saturday and Sunday. According to Mohawk Bend’s website, the bar area will be open to festival guests.

Local breweries such as Redlands-based Hangar 24 Craft Brewery and Torrance-based Smog City Brewing Co are among the participants.

 

Beerfest at Short Order tonight

Short Order will be hosting a Beerfest tonight with brewers Enegren & El Segundo.

The event begins at 5 p.m. and will feature $10 glass or flights.

Here’s the menu:

  • Blue House IPA / Beer Battered Halibut Cheeks, Spuds, Tartar Sauce
  • Valkyrie / Buttermilk & Hops Fried Chicken, Slaw, Hot Sauce
  • Black IPA / Grassfed Brisket “Machaca”
  • Double Stout / Chocolate Chip Cookie, Double Stout Ice Cream, Chocolate Covered Coco Nibs

LA Vegan Beer and Food Festival returns

Tickets are now on sale for the fourth installment of the LA Vegan Beer and Food Fest and, according to QuarryGirl, you better act quick because the event will sell out.

The May 4th event will be held at the Roxy, which is organizing the event alongside Tony’s Darts Away and food blogger QuarryGirl.

Tickets include unlimited craft beer. There will also be vegan eateries and food trucks vendors on site.

General admission is from 1-5 p.m. while VIP gains you earlier entrance access starting at noon.

The Beer Chicks to speak at Glendale Library tonight

Beer and books may not be a pairing that immediately comes to mind.

But it will tonight as Christina Perozzi and Hallie Beaune, better known as the Beer Chicks, will be at Glendale’s Central Library to discuss their latest book.

The duo will be also be signing copies of their second book, “The Naked Pint: An Unadulterated Guide to Craft Beer,” which has been a top seller on Amazon.com. The book offers tips on homebrewing and includes seasonal recipes.

If you haven’t heard about the Beer Chicks before they developed quite a following for their knowledge in craft beer and are considered the best female beer specialists in the country.

Tonight’s event begins at 7 p.m.
