Subway's new Orchard Chicken Salad sandwich

| | Comments (31) |

Since it was only $5 for a foot-long for a limited time only, I thought I would give Subway another chance by trying its new Orchard Chicken Salad sandwich.

It's like a Waldorf salad with cubed pieces of cooked chicken, cranberries, raisins, and small pieces of apple. I'm assuming it's all tossed in a mayonnaise sauce but it didn't seem too heavy or thick so that's good.

SUBWAY_chickenwaldorf3.JPGI'm not a huge fan of cranberries so I must admit I picked them out of my sandwich. The raisins were golden and added a nice sweet flavor without overpowering. If there were apples in there they must have been green ones and soft, because I don't remember any crunchiness.

I had my sandwich on wheat with spinach instead of lettuce and avocado at 60 cents extra per 6 inches. It's not much on the caloric and fat factor either at 340 calories, 7 grams of fat and 6 grams of fiber for six inches.

I must say it was better than I expected and maybe the avocado helped but I just might try this sandwich again. Especially if it's under $5 for the six inches or just $5 for the full foot.

Your Orchard was the best sandwich I ever tasted, and I never comment on line about food, but my family and my co-workers thought that the orchard chicken sadwich was the best. So when I went to pick up my sandwich they told me it was the last day, and I couldn't believe that you are going to discontinue something that is so good and tasty.

I was kind of hesitant at first, not a big fan of fruit, berries and meat mixture, but I was very pleasantly surprised...I Love it!

I went to Subway the first day they had this and the guy insisted it was a toasted sandwich! Toasted with fruit? I told him I thought he was wrong and ordered a Spicy Italian instead. :-(

Can't wait to read your tuna vs. tuna challenge!!

Wow! Okay, so I saw this commercial (i'm located in Tx) and i wanted to see what it REALLY looked like! Thanks so much for posting a picture and a review! I also wanted to tell you that I am JEALOUS... your Subway has avocado! MMM! I've never been to a Subway with Avocado! Lucky Ducky!

I cant wait to try it! going today or tomorrow. I love the feedback. Its funny because togos has one similar and my mom bought me one and it was good but I said this would be really good with cranberries. So really excited subway came out with this new sandwhich.

Not the best......I have certainly Had Better! Ordered a Foot Long.. and they put 2 scoops of the salad on the sandwich and spread it around... more apples than chicken... Not Worth $5

I tried the Orchard chicken salad today. It is soooo yummy!! I would definately get it again! I got a footlong since it is only $5, and they put 4 big scoops on, so I think it is well worth the money!!

I had one of you apple orchard sandwiches. It tasted good, but did not have enough on it. The 2 scoops barely covered the 12 inch sub. Don't be so stingy. There was more bread than salad.

Those of you that say you are only getting two scoops on a footlong sub need to talk to a manager. It is two scoops for a six inch and four inch for a footlong. There is a chance that the employees are trying to stretch the product if it is a big seller or are simply to lazy to go back and refill the container. You are being ripped off.

Jason said:

I work at subway, We put 2 scoops on a footlong, because the scoops are 2-times bigger then the crab/tuna scoops. Just saying you aren't being ripped off, there's a special made scoop for the promotion.

I thought it was repulsive ; I despise salty foods that have a sweet version of it (like caramel popcorn)

I really like it. I just no had it for lunch and was skeptical about all the stuff in it. I asked the young lady that worked there if she tried it and she also suggested what kind of bread and cheese! Needless to say it was AWSOME!!!! I enjoyed my 2 scoops! (I think more would have made my bread soggy to quick, just the right amount!) Subway on 52nd in Kenosha ROCKS!
Thanks!

I just got finished eating this sub and it was so disappointing that I had to immediately look to see what other people were saying about it. I must say I am completely shocked to see that so many people liked it, but then again, everyone has their own taste.

I consider myself to be a chicken salad connoisseur, and a big fan of Subway's regular chicken salad. I have spent a number of hours trying to perfect my own recipe to try to make it more like Subway's. So when I heard about this new sandwich, I was excited, thinking it would be like the other, only with the addition of fruit. Boy, was I wrong! The chicken was like little squares of processed pressed chicken, rather than the chunky moist white meat chicken in their regular chicken salad. And all of the fruits were like mush, which added little flavor and no texture. And the dressing was neither sweet nor savory. Needless to say I threw half of it away and will not be ordering it again.

There wasn't enough flavor on this thing. I mean it's Mayo, roasted chicken, and some cranberries (could not make out the other fruits). The fruit definitely gave it a sweet taste. I would have preferred some herbs in there to give it more flavor, maybe dill? But I am glad it's lower in fat compared to other sandwiches. Hey, you get what you pay for. I would suggest people try this and make up their own minds, but I will not buy again.

I went to the Subway in Penacook NH and after waiting in line for 20 min (only 1 person on at 1PM) I asked for the Orchard Chicken and the girl told me it was still frozen. I thought it was suppose to be fresh. OK I didn't get it obviously and guess that may be an omen.

Chrissy said:

I'm eating it now and ick! It tastes like mayo and bread with chunks of blandness. I don't taste any of the fruit. In fact, all I can see is slop.

gave me food poisoning...it was good going down though!

Ok guys...big tip, toast the bread and cheeese BEFORE adding orchard meat! I do this with all tuna, cold cut, etc...when heating the whole thing at once seems gross, TOAST FIRST!

I tried the orchard chicken salad and really enjoyed it. Maybe those that didn't like it just had a misfortune for some reason, but It was to my liking and I've wanted another one ever since. I actually went and bought ingredients to try to make the same version myself. I'll be making it tomorrow!

the orchard chicken salad is the best. i have had the $5 foot long three days in a row. keep this one on the menu. MMMMM good !!!

Michelle said:

My co-worker and I love chicken salad, so we thought we'd give this a try. Don't waste your money. The 2 scoops didn't cover the bread at all and it was mostly apples, not chicken. Also, they didn't give us a footlong for $5. Subway needs to go back to the kitchen on this recipe. We won't be recommending it.

Headed to get one RIGHT now...love the Orchard Sandwich!!!

Barb said:

I went back to get the Orchard Sub again today because the first one I had about a month ago was so delicious and appetizing. But they stopped making it already :(

Susan said:

"Jason" Well you may have a special scoop at your Subway's but they used the same one here, she put ONE scoop on a 6" and spread it around. All I could taste was bread and partially FROZEN chicken salad. NASTY and a waste of money. I should have known better. And yes,I was ripped off not only by the amount but by it still being frozen and the over all quality of the salad. What wasn't mushy was frozen which is why I imagine they want to toast it........thaws the salad out.

Jennifer said:

Love it! I could live off this sub! Makes all the other ones pale. Wish it could be a year round offering.

Anna said:

I loved it! I had it on honey oat bread, no chz, with spinach, avocado, and black pepper! It was light and the cranberries give it an extra sweetness that brings it all together!

i got a footlong orchard sub and the only problem i had was this chick put on two scoops and tried her best to spread it from one end of the footlong to the other. my co-worker and i laughed the whole time she tried to make this work. now if i'm not mistaken, if a 6" gets 2 scoops then a footlong should have 3 scoops. please correct me if i'm wrong.

BLWD said:

YUCK!! I love chicken salad and thought for sure this would be tasty, but this was HORRIBLE! It was so bland and mushy. It tasted like it was mixed with water instead of mayonaisse! Definitely won't be getting this one again!

Amy said:

I really enjoyed is and will be ordering it again. I got it on toasted Italian with spinach and a little tomato. A few of the apples were still frozen, so I would recommend letting it thaw a little sooner. I didn't count but I think there were probably two scoops, but that was plenty. I agree that any more would have been too messy. The sweet cranberries and raisins were perfect compliments to the savory chicken. Please keep this one around.

about to go get me one, hope all goes well!

Adrienne said:

NOOO! Don't do it! I got one yesterday at about 8pm and was violently sick all night, throwing up and diarrhea. I bet the chicken salad was sitting around too long and should have been thrown out earlier.
