HELP HAND OUT A HONDA: Know of anyone in the South Bay who has helped a community, or made a difference in the lives of others? They could not only get some deserved recognition, but a new Honda as well. Find out more. . .

Thursday is the deadline to submit nominations for the Honda Helpful Awards, established by the Southern California Honda Dealers Association to recognize people in Southern California who have had a positive effect on the community. Three winners chosen by the association will receive new cars.

Nominations can be submitted in person at participating Honda dealerships or online at this Web site.

Each nomination must explain the positive work the person has done in the community and its results; how a new Honda would help the nominee and what model would help them the most. The awards are part of an advertising and marketing program, the Southern California Honda Helpful campaign, which the Southern California Honda Dealers Association began in January to encourage “helpfulness” in Southern California communities.

In addition to TV, radio and online advertising, the campaign has been promoted by the Honda Helpful Guys and Girls in Blue, who have traveled around Southern California distributing water bottles during the summer, helping
people carry bags at supermarkets, bringing lunch and coffee to lifeguards and firefighters, and treating Honda customers to free gas. The cars will be awarded during a January 2008 ceremony in Los Angeles.

American Honda Motor Co. is based in Torrance.

Information: Southern California Honda Dealers Association can be reached at 310-397- 9025.
