The Advanced EHF system, being developed by Northrop Grumman's Redondo Beach-based Space Technology sector, with Lockheed Martin as the prime, completed a major milestone, the Air Force said today.
With the first satellite in the military communications constellation to be launched next year, Northrop and Lockheed were able to demonstrate the ability to communicate using the satellite system's hardware. The test took seven weeks to complete.
"The successful completion of this test is a huge step forward for the Protected MILSATCOM Product Line and the Advanced EHF system," said Col William J. Harding, commander of the wing's Protected Satellite Communications Group.
Advanced EHF will give the military much greater communications speed and flexibility than it possesses from current constellations.
