Consumer Alert: Torrance Marriott

PARKING TIP: The South Bay's largest landmark hotel outside of the LAX corridor -- the Torrance Marriott -- now charges some hefty fees at its parking deck after years of free parking. The Marriott hosts many seminars, trade shows and conferences throughout the year -- many of interest to South Bay residents, such as the annual South Bay Economic Forecast Conference each October.

The new parking rates, copied from the hotel's Web site, are:

On-site parking, fee: 10 USD hourly, 10 USD daily
Valet parking, fee: 15 USD daily
Automated Self Parking System begins September 6, 2007

Hotel visitors Tuesday morning reported paying $6 to park. So, visitors and guests beware: There is plenty of free parking in surrounding lots within walking distance, such as the vast Del Amo Mall lots, and nearby lots at Border's and Sport Mart along Torrance Boulevard.

Last winter, the Marriott finished up an extensive interior renovation and upgrade that boosted the hotel's amenities and profile. Now it has the parking fees to match the new aura.
