Wednesday at the South Bay Economic Forecast Conference, futurist Kenneth Dozier bemoaned American schools' declining emphasis on music, which develops math skills and creativity.
"Creativity is the only sustainable edvantage and what are we doing? Our music programs? Gone," said Dozier, a former rock musician and entrepreneur.
Speaking to about 200 attendees at the Torrance Marriott, Dozier suggested that many PCs can be replaced with super computers to enhance the nation's productivity and children's educational opportunities. He said that kids are much more technology savvy than adults and therefore should have greater opportunities to develop that skill in creative ways.
Joe Aro, who heads the South Bay Economic Development Parnership, which organized the event, asked why school computer labs are not opened in evenings and on weekends.
