400,000 Pounds of Plastic Saved

Fresh and Easy Neighborhood Market, the El Segundo-based grocery chain, said it has diverted more than 400,000 pounds of plastic display trays from landfills by using an ultra-violet light sanitizing machine.

With this technology, the chain has reused more than 2 million plastic display trays, material that could have been discarded, the company said.

UV Doctor, a Las Vegas company, produces the UV light device.
