The South Bay lost another car dealership as the auto retail market continued its steep slide with no bottom in site.
Superior Nissan of Carson, at 1505 E. 223rd St., closed last Wednesday, depriving the city of a major generator of sales tax revenue.
Newport Beach-based Superior Automotive Group closed the Carson dealership and its five other car lots around the state last week, according to a Carson city official and a company employee.
Superior Automotive Group's owner did not return a call seeking comment.
A call to the Carson dealership rang more than a dozen times without someone picking up the line.
"It's a big blow to the city," Cliff Graves, Carson's economic development general manager, said. "The city's very proud of its auto row and it's been very supportive. But market forces are what they are and sales have been down in Carson as they've been everywhere else."
