The Warren report

Barack Obama must like the sound of the news media saying "pastor disaster." First it was the America-bashing Rev. Wright. Now it's the gay-bashing Pastor Rick Warren of the Saddleback Ministries in Lakewood. What in heaven's name is going on here?

Obama's pick of Warren to give the invocation at his inauguration came out of left field and left the left saying that ain't right. Meanwhile the right is left not knowing its right from its left.

Warren has a history of being anti-gay and has even compared same-sex marriage to pedophilia and incest. Liberals have their dander up -- not to mention the gay and lesbian communities, who were handed that Proposition 8 loss on Election Day. And in progressive Caly-for-nee-ah, no less. Especially critical is MSNBC's Rachel Maddow, who is left of Gandhi. She called Obama's pick of Warren the president-elect's "biggest political stumble yet."

So where's the tolerance you left wingnuts? Are you Warrenphobics? Just because Warren isn't tolerant of your lifestyle doesn't mean you can't tolerate his absurd theories -- like comparing abortion to the Holocaust. Where's your Christmas spirit? Forgive and forget. Have some egg nog. Stop being divisive. Your hero Obama wants to be diverse -- bring everybody together -- and you can't get more diverse than this decision. To be inclusive you gotta ruffle a few feathers. Right now, some of you Obama's supporters are giving him the bird.

Democratic Congressman Barney Frank -- he of the witty repartee soundbite -- says Obama overestimates his charm trying to get people together. (Careful, Barn, that sounds a little too much like conservative talk radio.) Frank admits that sometimes he suffers from "post-partisan depression" and Obama's decision was used as an example.

The gay and lesbian communities and their supporters are trying to compare the same-sex marriage issue to the civil rights movements of the 1950s and 1960s. Tough to do. There are different degrees of discrimination going on here. A difference between race and lifestyle. There are no drinking fountains and bathrooms that are segregated as gay and straight. Those innocent little girls weren't murdered by a bomb going off while they were worshipping in their church because some racists thought they'd grow up and star on "The L Word." So ease up on the persecution complex.

As for Warren, the more you pontificate, the more you irritate. So knock off hogwash like saying gays are Christophobes. Stick with the more traditional God-fearing from the Book of Republicans if you must. You have the right to your opinion on being against same-sex marriage -- it's just not politically correct. And that gets the liberal bias media so rattled up they want to write an op-ed column for the New York Times.

The fact that the same-sex marriage proposition failed in what the rest of America thinks is the most liberal state in the Union cannot be tossed aside. The vote should not be overturned. That would defeat the purpose of trying to tell every American that every vote counts. By the same token, Warren should be thinking like the man of the cloth: it's better to be married than "living in sin."

Warren says he loves gays and straights. Maybe to prove some of his best friends are gay, he should march in the inaugural parade with the gay drum and bugle corps. If you do, Pastor Rick, for God's sake don't dress up as a drum majorette. The sight would be one hell of a visual to shake.
