Policy Riders

Did everybody get what they wanted with the budget deal or no budget deal to prevent the government from shutting down?

Can we call it a tie and get back to business? Well, the government’s closed for the weekend. OK, on Monday then.

Both sides are claiming victory, of course.

Weeper of the House John Boehner was probably moved to tears because he got $38 billion in cuts to what his party sees as wasteful spending.

But the Tea Party’s still mad as heck and not going to take it anymore.

Some actually threatened to put up a primary challenger against the Weeper come next year.

Why are they still so ticked off? President Obama won, too — that evil Planned Parenthood was brought back from the abyss.

Fox News and their thugs have to work even harder in the next few weeks to keep demonizing that organization.

After all, only God can plan parenthood.

Just the same as only the Almighty can watch over the environment and protect it.

Environmental Protection Agency? We don’t need no stinkin’ Environmental Protection Agency.

What we need is an Environmental Destruction Agency.

Some might agree we already have that and a lot of us work for it. We’re just not on the payroll.

Republicans are saying now that they started trimming some of the fat from the budget, lawmakers can now focus on creating jobs.

But first there is the little matter of getting rid of National Public Radio.

Then the ACLU.

Then The Washington Post.

Republicans are not going to try to create any new jobs. Heck, there’s McJobs aplenty out there for people who want to work.

They’re more interested in getting social issues off the table, first and foremost.

Well, that and to make sure the top two percent of the wealthy in America get tax breaks.

It’s the will of the party’s Fearless Leader, Rush Limbaugh. America’s Bully.

Meanwhile, with every major political news event, there’s always an overused word or phrase that quickly becomes cliche.

This time out it was “policy riders.” That’s a term for provisions thrown in like a social issue, just to see if they can get cuts to that program without the Democrats noticing.

Democrats are guilty of the same thing.

Those little pests deserve their own song. So here’s “We Dig Those Policy Riders” —- which can be sung to “I Dig Rock ‘N’ Roll Music” made famous by Peter, Paul and Mary:

“We dig those policy riders

‘Cos we love to stick it to the poor.

We think of the meanest things going

so better prepare yourself for more.

“Voters sent a message to D.C.

in the guise of WASP ideology—-

that describes us to the core.

          “We dig Boehner and McConnell

running the country into the ground.

They got a good thing goin’

long as Fox News is still around.

“But what’s really painful

is that the Dems are so shameful —-

even when they win they lose…..”

           “Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba…”
