2011 sing-a-long

             There's never been a year like 2011.
        And there are probably a lot of people out there who hope there never will be again.
        Still, many news events made 2011 interesting to satirize and criticize, and on that rare occasion, celebrate.
        As is a tradition with this blog, every year at this time some of the events of the past 12 months are incorporated into song lyrics.
        This time around is no different, except for the events.
        In any case, here's "2011 in Song." The words should be sung to the tune "My Favorite Things":

"Obama got bin Laden but didn't need to boast.
 Occupy Wall Street played out coast-to-coast.
Trump had GOP candidates jumping through hoops.
The best quote of 2011 was Rick Perry's "Oops."

"Willie and Kate tied the knot in Great Britain.
"Don't ask, don't tell" policy was finally rewritten.
 Europe's financial crisis hitting too close to shore.
 In 2011, Congress proved they should be out the door.

Gabby Giffords' courage,
Steve Jobs' passing,
The Pack is back.
Mission accomplished in 2011 ---- the troops finally came home from Iraq."

 "Anthony's weiner and Charlie Sheen's self-destruction.
  No jobs bill or infrastructure production.
 Gadhafi's own people put a bullet in his head.
 The year ended with Kim Jong Il dropping dead.

"The debt ceiling debacle and voter ID laws.
 The Terminator's love child, unions fight a lost cause.
 A gunman in Norway massacres 69.
 In 2011, more joined the unemployment lines.

"The payroll tax cut,
The Penn State scandal,
Paul Ryan wants to kill Medicare.
It took us until 2011 to stand up and fight for our fair share."
