Quakes lose slugfest on slam

In one of those games that is typical of baseball in Adelanto, the Quakes came from behind then lost a lead before losing 13-12 to the High Desert Mavericks on Saturday night.

The Quakes trailed 4-1, 6-3

then led 7-6, and eventually 12-8 before losing 13-12 on a grand slam in the bottom of the ninth.

The Quakes had snapped an 8-8 tie with four runs in the top of the ninth, keyed by Leon Landry’s three-run triple.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Mavericks scored one run on a double, ground out, walk and a sacrifice fly. Then two more batters walked before Stefen Romero hit his fifth homer of the year, a walk-off grand slam.

Joc Pederson was 4 for 6 with a run and an RBI, Leon Landry was 3 for 6 with a run, two triples and five RBIs, and C.J. Retherford and Scott Wingo each had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Quakes. Romero had four hits and six RBIs and Mike McGee was 3 for 4 with three runs, a home run and three RBIs.
