There are few times during the course of a season when the Quakes could use more seats. Tuesday was one of those times.

Quakes president Brent Miles said he thought they could’ve sold “about 2,000” more tickets. Instead, they had to settle for a sell-out crowd of 6,516 to watch the Quakes defeat High Desert 4-2.

The reason for the extra demand was two words: Matt Kemp. Kemp, the Dodgers’ all-star outfielder and MVP candidate, began a rehab stint with the Quakes as he works his way back from a hamstring injury.

Kemp went 2 for 3 with a pair of singles and a walk and scored a run. He was the DH on Tuesday, but is expected to remain with the team today when they travel to San Bernardino to play the 66ers at San Manuel Stadium. He said he plans to play five or six innings and play center field. As of Tuesday afternoon, only lawn tickets remained for Wednesday’s game.

He was joined by Dodger teammates Mark Ellis and Javy Guerra. Ellis completed his four-game rehab stint with the Quakes with a 2 for 4 performance, scoring a run. The Quakes scored all their runs in the first inning.

Guerra made his second appearance in the last three days for the Quakes. He started, pitched one inning, throwing 16 pitches. He struck out one, didn’t allow a hit or a run. Guerra, who pitched for the 66ers in 2007-08 was expected to be making his last appearance for the Quakes.
