3 ex-66ers dealt by Angels for Greinke

Infielder Jean Segura and pitchers Johnny Hellweg and Ariel Pena, all of whom played for the 66ers in 2011, were dealt on Friday to the Milwaukee Brewers for current all-star and 2009 Cy Young pitcher Zack Greinke. Greinke is 9-4 with a 3.44 ERA this season.

Each of the trio had outstanding 2011 seasons for the Sixers.

Although injuries limited Segura to 44 games with the Sixers last
season, he batted .281 with three home runs and 21 RBIs and 18 stolen
bases.

Hellweg had a breakout second half after he was moved from the bullpen
to the rotation. In the second half of 2011, Hellweg was 4-1 with a 2.18
ERA and 78 strikeouts in 57 2/3 innings.

Pena, too, was outstanding. He was 10-6 with a 4.45 ERA, but struck out 180 in 151 2/3 innings, finishing second in the league in strikeouts.

To open this season, Segura was the Angels No. 2 prospect, Hellweg No. 4 and Pena No. 9 according to Baseball America.

Currently, MLB.com had Segura the Angels’ No. 1 prospect (after Mike Trout was sent to the big leagues), Hellweg No. 7 and Pena No. 14.
Segura was batting .294 with seven home runs and 33 stolen bases in 94 games for Double-A Arkansas, although he was in the big leagues at the time of the trade.
Hellweg was 5-10 with a 3.38 ERA and 88 strikeouts in 119 2/3 innings for Arkansas, while Pena was 6-6 with a 2.99 ERA and 111 strikeouts in 114 1/3 innings for Arkansas.

No word yet on any trickle-down moves for the 66ers this year.
