66ers rally to win, 8-6; Quakes fall 6-1

C.J. Cron’s two-run homer in the 7th gave the Sixers the lead for good and they held off visiting Lake Elsinore 8-6 on Thursday.
The Sixers had trailed 4-1 after four innings, but rallied and Cron’s 21st homer gave the Sixers a 6-5 lead.

Ryan Jones added a two-run double in the eighth to give the Sixers (who
scored in every inning from the 5th to the 8th) an 8-5 lead, but closer
Daniel Tillman made it interesting in the ninth.

Donovan Tate’s RBI double with two out made it 8-6, and after a walk
loaded the bases, Tillman got Rico Noel to ground out to end the game,
earning his sixth save.

Carmine Giardina (1-0) got the win after allowing a run in 1 2/3
innings. Eric Cendejas followed with a shutout inning before Tillman
earned the save. Cron, Jones and Kaleb Cowart drove in two runs apiece
for the Sixers.

The Quakes, meanwhile, wrapped up their 3-game series in Modesto with a 6-1 loss. The Quakes had 8 hits, but didn’t have an at-bat with a runner in scoring position. Bobby Coyle’s home run accounted for the only run. JonMichael Redding (7-6) allowed three runs (two earned) in six innings and took the loss.
