Blast From the Past on FSN
Was flipping through channels Saturday morning when I came across a blast from the past on Fox Sports Net 2, Saturday at 11 a.m.
It was a Fox Sports "High School Football Game of the Week" replay of the 2003 Mission League showdown between Sherman Oaks Notre Dame and St. Paul at Monsignor Cranham Stadium.
That was a contest that featured prominent stars like St. Paul's D.J. Tardy (Washington State) and Notre Dames' Garrett Green and Cary Harris (both at USC).
Another blast from the past was linebacker/fullback Matthew Parent, who scored St. Paul's first touchdown of the game and also led the team in tackles. Parent is currently a junior at the University of New Hampshire and is a starting linebacker for the Wildcats.
For those who have forgotten, St. Paul trailed 21-13 at the 1:20 mark in the fourth before rallying for a 24-21 victory, in their biggest upset win of the season. Kicker Randall Reynoso sealed the game after a Knights' muffed kick return by nailing a 47-yard field goal with 18 seconds left.
The Swordsmen finished off the 2003 campaign Mission League champions at 10-3 with one of their two regular-season losses against Long Beach Poly (47-14).
St. Paul was eliminated in the semifinals of the D-III playoffs by Palmdale, 14-6. The Mission League title was the final in the brilliant career of St. Paul coach Marijon Ancich.

what a brutal blog. Literally ZERO comments. What a big success and great idea it was to form this.

I think you have some good things on your blog, but nobody knows you have a blog. On the paper there's rogers blog, on the front page of this sports prep (top right corner) I see roger's blog and what he's writing about. It all comes down to nobody knows you have a blog.
I too saw the game on FSN and would love to see it time and time again. But i think some other players need to be mentioned if we are talking about St Paul and Notre Dame. I figured to do a bit of research on some of these players who played on the offensive and defensive fronts. Lineman never do get any kind of attention to begin with so the big guys expect it, but in this game, there were some big time guys on the field. But nobody seemed to notice them.
So I thought I would do a little research and
find out how these guys are doing.
on the field for Notre Dame, Tony DeMartini is now a DE for San Diego State and Anthony Santa Croce is now a linebacker at division 2 La Salle. (Tony DeMartini's little brother who also played for ND is now a tackle at CAL) For St Paul: Rameses Arceo former Kansas Jayhawk Tackle was part of the 07 orange bowl champions, Ronnie Castillo is the starting Center for the San Jose State Spartans and member of the '06 new mexico bowl champions, and Jason Kahau, an all-cif nosetackle had his career ended short with injuries.
It is always nice to learn that the young men from these local schools have gone on to have succesful careers while earning a college education. That talent is right here in the Mission League.
Without a doubt, one of the best hs fb games ever filmed by FSN
